Sunekos PERFORMA is an injectable that renews skin tissue by regenerating the extracellular matrix (ECM) using a unique patented combination of hyaluronic acid and specific amino acids that stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin make up the majority of the ECM. ECM homeostasis is crucial for optimal cell and organ function, and its loss is what causes skin aging.
Skin aging is caused by external and internal factors that decrease not only the amount of collagen in the dermis, but also its composition. For example, type III collagen makes up 50% of the collagen in newborn skin, but only 5% of the collagen in aging adult skin. In addition, type IV collagen, which forms the anchoring plates between structural collagen types in the dermis, begins to lose volume after the age of 35, and the thickness of the epithelial basement membrane increases with age, indicating a decrease in cell turnover.
At the same time, the number of fibroblasts decreases, collagen and elastin production decreases, and the degradation of these elements by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is more pronounced. Due to the decreased amount of hyaluronic acid, increased hyaluronidase activity, and the regulation of CD44 and RHAMM membrane receptors, the transcription of hyaluronic acid genes decreases.
Suneka's PERFORMA – what makes it special?
Sunekos PERFORMA is a new Professional Dietetics injectable that can be used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, décolleté and hands, making it a very versatile product. It makes the skin look plumper, firmer, brighter and more hydrated, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves the appearance of dark circles and under-eye circles. The new formula has been clinically proven to reduce the degradation of hyaluronic acid by hyaluronidase by 40% due to the hydrophobic effect of the specific amino acid formula. It prolongs the positive effect of hyaluronic acid at the injection site to stimulate receptors in fibroblasts for a longer time and produce more IV collagen, elastin and fibronectin, producing more ECM components, which improves skin elasticity and firmness, and makes it even more hydrated.
Sunekos PERFORMA is a 3,5 ml pre-mixed vial containing 35 mg of unbound LMWHA ranging in mass from 50 to 250 kDa and 128 mg of six specific amino acids. This blend has been shown to effectively restore the ECM by stimulating the production of elastin, all major types of dermal reticular collagen fibers, and collagen types IV and VII. Fibronectin mRNA levels were also found to increase after 72 hours of treatment compared to untreated cells. The increased levels of collagen types IV and VII, together with fibronectin (which plays an important role in cell adhesion and anchoring of reticular collagen fibers and cells), result in improved skin firmness.
Review of the study with Suneka PERFORMA
A pilot study evaluating the effects of Suneka PERFORMA on facial skin aging showed that 10 patients aged 40-67 years old who were selected for the study noticed improvements in skin texture, dyschromia, skin elasticity, and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Each of them stated that they had not undergone any other aesthetic procedures in the past year. Each patient received three injections, with a two-week interval between treatments. Assessments were performed at baseline and every two weeks before injections. The fourth assessment was performed four weeks after the third treatment session. During each treatment, a total of 3,5 ml of pre-mixed HY6AA+ formula was injected using the High-Performance Technique (HPT) by injecting 0,1 ml boluses into the deep dermis of the entire face, including the eye area and forehead, perpendicular to the natural lines of skin tension.
The analysis showed that the treated patients had a 71% reduction in forehead wrinkles and a 44% reduction in eye wrinkles. Skin texture was significantly improved, and skin dyschromia due to photoaging improved by 16%. Skin elasticity was assessed using a standardized compression test, and a VAS scale was used to assess the progress of skin tightness and elasticity after each treatment. All patients showed significant improvements in skin tightness and elasticity. All patients reported an improvement in appearance according to the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS). After the first treatment, 28% of patients reported a moderate improvement in appearance, while the remaining patients reported a significant improvement in appearance.
Results and summary
No patients reported any deterioration or no improvement in appearance. The study concluded that skin texture, color, and firmness improved after treatment with the patented HY6AA+ formula. It was also interesting to note that tissue volume also improved. Side effects were minimal, and the treatment was well tolerated by patients.
In summary, Sunekos PERFORMA can be used in conjunction with Sunekos® 1200 as part of a skin injection protocol for the face and hands. The protocols vary depending on the problem areas being treated. The higher molecular weight Sunekos® 1200 acts as a free radical scavenger, ensuring the protection of skin components.
